If you want to just enjoy your golf, or test yourself against excellent amateur golfers this is the club to join, you won’t be disappointed.
Check out our website & contact our secretary Andrew Traill for further information on 01333 426333, option 1 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org
Competition is open on VMS, you must enter if you’re intending to play. BRS timesheet opens on the 30th at 7pm. As per previous email, your tee time & group may change slightly.
These are back in use from Wednesday 28th. Please ensure cards are completed correctly and clearly with: players name, competition name, date, Course Handicap and signed. At this time clearly print the name of the player who has verified your score. Remember to enter your score on the iPad in the club then put your card in the box.
An iPad is now available in the lounge for competition entry and for recording your score. We will continue to accept scores submitted via the phone app if you’d prefer, however please ensure your score is entered and confirmed via the app or by using the iPad in the club. Confirming your score means that your score has been sent to Scottish Golf, this is important as it’ll be processed in the evening and your HI adjusted accordingly for the following day. Any scores recorded on the phone app will show on the iPad. If you encounter problems with the app on the course, pop into the club after your round and complete your card.
General Play scores should be submitted via the app or the iPad.
Matchplay – draws & app messaging
Entries to the knockout competitions close on Monday 3rd.
Entry to The St Andrews Trophy (pairs) will open on Saturday 1st May at 7pm. It’s restricted to 32 players and entrants will be randomly paired.
The folders in the locker room have been used for many years to arrange our matchplay ties. As we couldn’t use the folder method last year, our only option was to let members contact each other directly. This proved to be very successful with a higher percentage of ties being played compared to previous years. This year, we would like to do the same which involves the SG app.
If you haven’t already noticed, the app has a Contacts section where members of the club are listed. On the home page select GolfsApp which provides: text, email and phone options. The setting to show your details can be found in More > My Personal Data, enable Add to Venue Directory. Whilst you’re in there check your details and fill in any blanks. Another useful setting is Receive Push Notifications which is on the My App page. If ties aren’t played then proof of communication provided will be used to determine who goes through.
For those of you who don’t have access to the app then Sports will provide contact details if and when required.
Tournament Information Centre (TIC)
This feature of VMS is useful for: live scoring, results, fixtures etc.
To achieve an equal balance in tee time courtesy, we have obtained times on Tuesdays when the LGS ladies have their times. Any unused times will be released on the Friday.
Neither St Andrews GC or Carnoustie GC have been able to secure a booking on their championship courses for this year’s competition and since we’re unable to play the format we’re used to, the three clubs have agreed to cancel this year’s competition and plan for 2022.
Please email us at email@example.com if you have any handicap issues or queries and we’ll do our best to help.
Yours in Gouff
As expected yesterday afternoon the first minister confirmed the easing of Covid-19 restrictions which allows the Clubhouse to reopen from Monday 26th April.
Social distancing will be in place with up to 6 people from 2 households allowed to sit together. Signing in and out will still apply for track and trace purposes and no alcohol can be served in doors.
Catering will also resume on Monday and tables should be booked in the usual way. As the restaurant and kitchen must close by 8pm last orders for food will be taken at 6pm.
The Clubhouse and locker rooms will close at 9pm (darkness).
As COVID restrictions start to relax we hope to restart the social events in the clubhouse. Any acts booked will be subject to restrictions in place at the time. Tickets and times will be posted nearer the dates.
Last year back in February we were entertained by 3’s A Crowd. I thought it fitting that we start the year where we left off and have booked them for the 24th July in the upstairs function room.
The 14th August will see the return of local lads Vice Versa.
Gavin Patrick will be back to entertain us on the 2nd October.
More acts will be added to the social diary as things finally relax.
We hope to see as many members, old & new, supporting the club and enjoying great nights out with family and friends in The Thistle.

Baird Cup Club Championship
Dates for this year’s qualifying rounds are 8th & 22nd May, entries open at 8pm on the 13th & 27th April respectively. These competitions will not be drawn therefore there’s no need to select a tee time when entering, but remember to book your tee time on BRS when the timesheets open 8 days prior. The timesheets will close on the Tuesday before competition day and this will prevent you from amending your booking. Your time or group may change slightly to remove any gaps and Chris is approved to accept late entries and make changes on the day to ensure the first tee runs smoothly. Please gives us as much notice as possible if you’re unable to make your tee time.
Dates & starting times for the matchplay rounds are:
